Relationship Coach Quoted In "Studs in Stripes" Article

McLean, VA- Toni Coleman; a psychotherapist, noted relationship coach and founder of Consum-mate.com, a website for singles who want to build lasting, healthy relationships, was interviewed for an article titled "Studs in Stripes."

This article, which was published in the June 13, 2003, edition of Creative Loafing Magazine in Atlanta, Georgia, discusses why women seek relationships with incarcerated men.

Ms. Coleman made the following points about the characteristics that can be found in these women:

  • "women who have a strong desire to nurture- and a weak sense of self- are likely to be drawn to the prospect of a relationship with a man in lockdown"
  • "to women who've been abandoned before, it makes sense to give their trust to a man who can't run out on them"
  • "there's the bad boy factor; women can live their fantasies through men like this"

According to Ms. Coleman; "It's critically important for women to understand the experiences that shape their choices in men. Their personal history forms the foundation of the beliefs and values that influence what they hold to be true about love and relationships. These beliefs can be very negative, unrealistic and self-destructive."

In her relationship coaching practice, Ms. Coleman has worked with many single women who share a history of being attracted to the "wrong kind" of man or to the "bad boys." Once they have identified where this attraction comes from, they are able to move forward and create healthy, lasting unions by choosing men who share the same life goals and are truly available for intimate relationships.
