Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a type of partnership in which the coach's role is to help you
define and achieve the goals that will bring about the life changes you are
seeking. The coach provides support, mentoring, direction and new tools; much
like an athletic trainer does.
Relationship Coaching is a specialty niche, in which the client seeks a coach
who has expertise in the areas of relationship help, building and support.
Who is a Coach?
A coach is an individual who has the specific knowledge, experience and
training to assist people in designing and achieving new goals that will
bring about desired life changes.
Who Hires a Coach?
People who enter coaching are generally high functioning and stable. They
often come to coaching seeking new goals or direction in their life. They may
feel something is missing or that life is out of balance. Perhaps they are
very successful in many areas of their life, but unhappy or frustrated due to
a missing or incomplete dimension. People who seek relationship coaching are
often single and frustrated due to failed attempts to create a healthy,
lasting relationship.
How Does Coaching Work? What is it like?
Coaching is an active, flexible and progressive process that allows for
accelerated growth and change in the client.
- Coaching takes place over the telephone. You call me at a pre-arranged time, using a number that I provide. If you would prefer to be coached via email, this can be arranged as well.
- Individual sessions are 30 minutes in length.
- I also offer group coaching in the form of an eight-week teleclass. Sessions are held for one hour, once per week.
- You are encouraged to email me if important issues arise between sessions.
- Sessions can be scheduled 1 to 8 or more times a month, depending on what program you enroll in, and what your specific needs are.
- All sessions and any information that you provide are strictly confidential.
How long a commitment do I have to make once I begin a coaching relationship?
Some coaches require a specific commitment of 3-6 months. I will work with
you for 1 session, up to as many as you decide you need- to achieve your
relationship goals. We would establish a basic time frame by the end of our
first session together.
What Does Coaching Cost?
Depending upon what program you choose, and how often we meet, my fees
have a wide range.
What is the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy?
Psychotherapy focuses on a problem(s) or dysfunction that the client
presents. The goal is to bring the person up to a normal level of
functioning. Therapy is almost always conducted in person. Special
circumstances may require that some sessions be held over the phone.
The clients who come to coaching are functioning at normal levels (or above normal) in the different areas of their life. They are generally seeking more fulfillment, balance or to achieve excellence in one or more areas. Coaching is conducted over the phone or via email, except in unusual circumstances.
What Can I Expect from the Coaching Experience?
You should expect the consistent support and encouragement that will help you
to achieve the relationship of your dreams. Your coach is a mentor, partner
and constant presence as you achieve your goals and make your life (and
relationship) what you want them to be.
